Yoga Workshop

Located in the heart of downtown Boulder, the Yoga Workshop, which was established in 1987, is the one of the oldest and most well established Ashtanga yoga studios in the United States. At the Yoga Workshop we teach Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga in the tradition of Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, South India. www.ayri.org.

About Us

Through all classes at the Yoga Workshop we teach a dynamic, focused, and deeply organic approach to the eight limbs of classical yoga. Our method of practice, our teaching and philosophy are grounded through the Ashtanga Vinyasa lineage of non-dualistic experience (advaita vedanta). This traditional approach is recognizable in Hindu and Buddhist contemplative traditions, as well as in the direct experience the practice itself uncovers.

Richard Freeman, the studio’s founder, and many of the other members of our teaching staff have studied this traditional form of yoga extensively with K. Pattabhi Jois both in Mysore India and in the United States.

We offer a wide range of classes for students of all levels. In traditional Mysore style classes students practice individually, working on whichever series or therapeutic loop they are currently practing with personalized assistance from the teachers. Our led classes are designed to teach the fundamentals of the internal forms of Ashtanga yoga; the sequencing of postures, alignment, breathing, bandhas, mudra and dristi.

In addition we have introductory courses on the Primary and Intermediate series, as well as introductory courses teaching the general principles of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, sitting meditation, yoga philosophy, pranayama, prenatal yoga, and therapeutic applications of yoga.
